It’s my last night shift tonight. The final part of my job is to prep the unit at Rochester, run empty to Dartford and then in service to Rainham, where I’ll be relieved en route at Gillingham.

ECS (Empty Coaching Stock) moves are nice because you get to reach line speed without having to keep stopping at stations. Sadly, this last ECS move of mine follows a passenger service, so I don’t get to “put my foot down”. It’s a case of poodling along behind the other train.
